at the feet of untamed things

Barnaby is restless. At first, he thought it was maybe boredom, just a moment of not being able to focus on anything, but no. He can feel an itch to do something, anything, that has him moving.

He'd tried playing music, which didn't really get him anywhere. It felt good for a few minutes, but then it only seemed to build up the restlessness even more. So he put down his violin and traded it for pacing the length of the livingroom with a book in hand.

It also doesn't really help, but doing two things at once makes things settle a tiny bit more. He needs to do something though, something that makes him move and keeps his attention.

Putting down the book, he digs up some of the rope they keep around, running his fingers over it before he starts to tie and untie it until he finds himself doing a series of ties on himself. It's at least posing enough of a challenge to keep him occupied, which is all he wanted.

The thought of going to get Jeremy had crossed his mind, as had going to go talk to Birch to see if they would be a good distraction, but this would do for now. He can pivot to something else when it stops working.

He nuzzles and kisses him in return, sometimes mixing in the touch of his tongue to his lips or the tip of his nose. There are more wriggles, and this time he does so enough that he tips them onto their sides, which only makes him drape his arm and leg over his love and let out another laugh.

"I promise that I can stay still," he says, smiling widely. "At least I think I can."

He laughs with his love. With another little laugh, he tips Barnaby onto his back and settles himself on top of him with a flap of wings. "Maybe," he says and props himself up to gently press his lover's shoulders down, "someone needs to help."

He can't help but giggle again, then proceed to wriggle beneath his love. "Help is good," he says, then squirms one more time. "But I'll take pretty much anything you want to give me, honestly. Help. You to lay on top of. I'm happy as long as it's you."

"That seems pretty easy for me to give." He bends down to give his love a kiss.

He makes a pleased sound into the kiss, then arches up into him a little. "You give me so many you-related things," he says, sounding quite pleased by this fact. "It's great, actually."

He starts up a little rocking from side to side instead of trying to actually get up. Maybe he's still a little restless, but it's a much more enjoyable, excited kind now. He is here, with the man he loves in the safest place he could be. That's worth being excited over.

Giggling, he scatters kisses over his love's face. "Me related things are things I have in great supply."

He can't stop his own giggles and squirming. "There is so much you," he says, wrapping his arms and legs around him. "Which is great news for me. Having so much of you is the best thing I could hope for."

"I'm glad." He gives his love a few more kisses. "I'm not sure what to do with that knowledge, but I'm glad. Being loved by you is the best thing I could hope for."

[amistillenough]

He tugs him close for a slower kiss, then touches their noses together. "I guess it's good that we've got plenty of time for you to figure that out then."

[kinginred]

"It is. Lots of time for me to accept that I deserve this nice thing." He leans up to touch their noses together.

He giggles, then tilts his head to kiss him on the nose. "We both get to have that," he says. "So many nice things."

Running his hands over his love's sides, he then reaches up to gently brush over his wings, enjoying the feeling of them under his hands. "Sometimes I wonder if you'll ever be able to have those outside of here somehow. I don't know how exactly, but I do."

"It is a little odd not having them outside of here. I don't know how that would happen, but if it does I'm glad you'll enjoy them," he says and kisses his cheek.

He turns his head to kiss him, his hand coming to rest loosely against his neck. "I love every part of you," he says, touching their noses together. "Every part of you in here, and every part anywhere else. Maybe you and I will be able to be different out there one day, but maybe not. At least I get to be with you either way. That's the important part."

"That is the important part," he says. He nuzzles his love and settles into a loving kiss.

He smiles into it, his arms and legs coming to hold his love close again. Being able to just share closeness like this is something he's never going to get tired of. Showing his love freely and whenever he wants is a beautiful thing.

When one kiss ends, he lets another start, allowing it to bloom between them as he holds his beloved.

He is very happy to let the kisses stretch out and blend into what they hold between them. Their life and dedication to each other.

He smiles again as one of their kisses comes to an end, then nudges their noses together. "We should go walking at some point," he says. "Maybe go somewhere that will let us get a good view of the stars."

"Here or out there?" The stars he can make here are vibrantly more than their Earthly sky.

[amistillenough]

"Well," He says, running his hands over his love's sides. "I was thinking out there. We don't really have to go searching for a good view, and I was thinking that would be part of it, but here is also good." He looks up at him with a bright, pleased smile. "We can always do both."

[kinginred]

"I wanted to be sure because I'm pretty comfortable right now. I could give us a starry sky, but I know part of it would be to walk. Walking isn't the same in here," he says.

[amistillenough]

"Oh, I don't want to do it right now," he says with a laugh. "I'm too comfy to move that much. I just meant I want to do it at some point soon." Then he kisses him again, his hand tangling in his love's hair.

"I like stars though. We could do that for now and go walking later on."

The light shifts to a soft darkness. Something where it is still somehow possible to see easily. Above the trees allow glittering stars to be seen.

He kisses his love's cheek. "How is that?"

He's beaming and nuzzlies at his beloved for a moment before answering. "Wonderful," he says with a little wriggle. "You know, I understand that your powers have been hard. You've gone though so much because of them, but they let us share things like this too, and I love that. I love all of you."

"I love you too." He smiles down at his love before giving him a kiss.

He returns the kiss happily, then rocks them both from side to side. "You made me love stars a lot more than I used to," he says with a small laugh. "I see them and I think of you now. Which, right now, seems kind of funny considering where we are."
